BRILLIANCE IN WATERCOLOR ARTIST STATEMENT www.morristaylor.net As an artist, I draw inspiration from the natural world. Painting with watercolor gives me a direct connection between the inspiration of nature and the flow of paint from my brush. This synapse excites me and I want to share that energy. The current exhibit emphasizes the brilliant and colorful images possible in the medium of watercolor. I choose colors for their sensuousness, forms for their expressiveness and textures for their sumptuousness. My recent works explore the juxtaposition of pure colors as well as near monochromatic nuance. I employ classic watercolor technique where the only white is the paper showing through the transparent pigment. I have expanded my artistic vision to include a variety of joyful experiences. During a pilgrimage to Palestine and Israel I explored my religious core. Simultaneously, I painted the exquisite contours of the human figure. Even my abstract images have become more bold and innovative. You, the viewers, are expected to react reflexively to the pictures. Hopefully you will linger to savor the color, form and style. In addition, you may want to contemplate and confront your own notions of beauty, sexuality and spirituality. I invite you to delight in my watercolors and take one home with you. |
